Giving Back – Blue Mountain Healthcare Foundation’s Year in Review

The Blue Mountain Healthcare Foundation is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run by community members passionate about the continuous advancement of healthcare in Grant County. The board raises money throughout the year for various goals – from purchasing equipment to funding programs, and everything in between.

As we wrap up 2024, let’s look back on all that the Blue Mountain Healthcare Foundation has done.

In February the Healthcare Foundation held their annual dinner and auction on National Random Acts of Kindness Day, and committed the funds to giving back to the community via random acts of kindness. Here’s where those raised funds went:

  • Paid off $6,000 in meal balances at schools across Grant County
  • Paid nearly $4,000 in power bills at OTEC and helped remove a number of people from the power cut off list.
  • Paid $1,000 to John Day/Canyon City Parks and Rec Summer Lunch Program – providing free meals to students throughout the summer.
  • Purchased an Automated External Defibrillator for a local church ($940)
  • Purchased Christmas gifts for local families in need
  • and more!

Total Spent on Random Acts of Kindness so far: $13,915.51

The Foundation also:

  • Committed $8,125 to Blue Mountain Hospital to purchase new infusion pumps – these are coming Q1 of 2025.
  • Purchased a new eye pressure monitor for Blue Mountain Hospital ($4,894)
  • Purchased two muscle testers for the Rehabilitation Services Department ($2,700)
  • Purchased a new extrication tool for the BMH Ambulance ($16,000)
  • Purchased an ultrasound imaging system for the Rehabilitation Services Department for lumbopelvic rehabilitation ($7,500)
  • Helped BMH finish a Pumping/Lactation room for employees in need of a place to pump while working ($1,562)
  • Purchased items for the Blue Mountain Care Center for both resident activities and maintenance ($4,372)

Aside from funding equipment and programs, the Foundation helps in other ways with generous contributions from donors that wish to assist patients with a variety of needs that arise like:

  • Purchasing Life Flight Memberships for patients about to be flown out that aren’t covered
  • Helping patients with travel costs to specialists and appointments out of town
  • Helping out of town patients with travel costs to BMHD for surgeries, etc.
  • Helping uninsured or underinsured patients cover the cost of mammograms & other services
  • Purchasing medical equipment, prescriptions, etc. for patients when insurance won’t cover the costs

The Foundation has contributed over $60,000 in 2024, and this would not be possible without the support of local businesses, individuals, families, groups, schools & students, grantors, and donors beyond our community. Whether you attend one of the Foundation’s events, contribute via donation, auction items, time, volunteering, tell a friend about an event, or even just hang a flyer in your business – you’re making a huge impact and we are immensely grateful!

On the horizon for 2025 – The Foundation has committed to raising funds to purchase a new Endoscope Reprocessing System, which sterilizes equipment for surgeries much quicker and more efficiently than the current sterilizer. The total cost of this new machine is $47,000.

If you’d like to make a donation to the Blue Mountain Healthcare Foundation, you can do so anytime on our website.

The 20th Annual Fundraiser Dinner & Auction will be held on February 15th at the Grant County Fairgrounds, we hope to see you there!

Thank you Grant County, for a wonderful year of giving back!
