Cardiac/Vascular Sonographer – Radiology | Full-Time

Position Summary

Provide quality care close to home as our Blue Mountain Hospital District mission states. This is to include great diagnostic imaging, patient care and customer service. It is expected to care for our patients from the moment we get an order to the time they leave the department. Blue Mountain Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital, and the Radiology Department responsibilities are to schedule patients, perform exams while providing optimal patient care. The department works closely with providers at the Strawberry Wilderness Community Clinic and other departments within the hospital to achieve great patient care. The cardiac sonographer will work with St. Charles Cardiologists in Bend, OR to ensure best protocols.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Performs exams from start to finish.
    • Confirm order is accurate and has authorization.
    • Call and schedule patients according to department protocol.
    • Enter correct demographics and order into the RIS.
    • Perform exam according to the physician order and Cardiologist protocols.
    • Administers contrast per physician order and Cardiologist protocols.
    • Notate appropriate documentation
    • Make exam available to Cardiologist to be read
    • Complete the correct exam within the hospital EHR for charges.
  • Maintain Infection Control and Equipment
    • Clean after every patient
    • Practice good hand hygiene
    • Wipe down high touch surfaces
    • Wear proper PPE
    • Clean and maintain equipment per manufactures recommendations
    • Use Trophon to disinfect probes.
  • Meet, Maintain and Exceed Department Competencies
    • Competency checklist provided by department
    • Demonstrate Competency in IV starts
    • Scheduling
    • Using PACs
  • Other possible duties but not limited to:
    • Perform EKGs and any documentation associated with them.
    • Assist in patient transfers with fellow departments
    • Tracking inventory and supplies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to maneuver patients on table in order to obtain proper images.
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
  • Completes appropriate imaging modality orientation/competency of equipment and protocols within the department.
  • Uses AIDET according to BMH policy
  • Use of appropriate technical factors
  • Appropriate positioning for the exam ordered by physician.
  • Practices good sterile techniques.
  • Performs ultrasound bubble studies per Cardiologist protocols.

Education, Experience & Certification/Licensure

Required:
  • Graduate from an accredited certificate program.
  • Maintain the required amount of CEU’s per certifying body.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider (HCP) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.
  • Cardiac Sonographer:
    • Minimum 2 year experience.
    • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registry eligible under the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) within 4 months of hire or equivalent.
    • License from Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI).
  • Vascular Sonographer:
    • Minimum 1 year experience.
    • Credentialed as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or eligible within 4 months of hire or equivalent.
    • License from Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI).
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
