Position Summary

Emergency Department

Provides professional nursing care within the Emergency Department; coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with ED physicians regarding changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Emergency Department

  • Uses triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients. Accurately assigns triage categories.
  • Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring; identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately.
  • Prepares, hangs, titrates, monitors and discontinues IV fluids and IV medication drips.
  • Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and care of a multiple trauma patient and prioritizes needs and care appropriately.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department.

  • Maintains self-motivation and sustains a high level of momentum.
  • Able to successfully prioritize when faced with requests, demands and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts.
  • Must be extremely detail oriented and able to accurately assess patient and document findings in the electronic medical record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Expresses excellent judgment, discretion and decision making abilities.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety, quality and positive patient experience.
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, CMS, National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs), HIPPA and continued readiness related to healthcare or hospital standards.
  • Ability to prioritize, highly organized.
  • High work ethic, low absenteeism, attends staff meetings and other mandatory trainings as required.

Education, Experience & Certification/Licensure

Required: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • RN License, in good standing with State of Oregon.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred: 

  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • TNCC
