About:

Dr. Wisco founded Dermatology Health Specialists to provide dermatology care to Central and Eastern Oregon, including rotations through Blue Mountain Hospital. Much of Dr. Wisco’s medical career has been in the military, where he has served over 26 years in the Air Force and Air National Guard and recently retired after attaining Colonel’s rank. In addition to caring for patients in Oregon, Dr. Wisco is passionate about advancing the field of dermatology by improving patient access to skin cancer care and gaining a deeper understanding of risk factors leading to high-risk skin cancer. To achieve this goal and provide Central Oregon with advanced skin cancer resources, Dr. Wisco serves as the Director of Cutaneous Oncology at Brown University, leading multiple research projects, teaching dermatology residents, and caring for high-risk skin cancer patients. He has also previously served as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology for Emory University School of Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Wisco has been heavily involved in national healthcare improvement initiatives, primarily through the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), the American Medical Association’s National Quality Registry Network (NQRN), and the US military. His work most significantly guided the development of the AAD’s national performance measurement system and data registry (DataDerm) for all of dermatology. He has also served on the AAD’s workgroup to develop dermatology’s 2018 national guidelines for melanoma care. While previously serving on active duty in the Air Force, he piloted a regional teledermatology/education program based on the University of New Mexico’s Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes program (Project ECHO) to improve access to care for military medical facilities in the Southeastern region of the United States. This successful pilot was one of the first dermatology focused Project ECHO models in the US.

With his research/performance improvement expertise, informatics background, and health systems & policy work, in addition to his highly specialized medical and surgical training, he is dedicated to providing comprehensive, personalized skincare with a focus on health promotion. He has spent the past twenty years refining this expertise, and he is excited to serve the Central and Eastern Oregon communities.

Outside of work, Dr. Wisco can be found mountain biking, running, or skate skiing on one of the mountain trails with his wife and two daughters.
