Position Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting in the preparation and/or maintenance of financial records in accordance with Blue Mountain Hospital District (BMHD) policy. This includes interacting with employee, department managers and vendors in a professional, courteous and timely manner to resolve concerns and properly account for transactions as appropriate. Multi-tasking, self-motivation, organization skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are requires skills/traits. Actively participates in the department’s performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Blue Mountain Hospital District (BMHD).
- Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements by preparing assigned journal entries, reconciling assigned accounts, analyzing financial performance, accumulating statistical data from various sources and inputting much of the foregoing into the prescribes format to report to the Board and/or management. Distributes monthly departmental operating statements.
- Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts, preparing/posting any necessary journal entries as a result
- Maintains Property, Plant and Equipment accounting on the prescribed fixed assets system.
- Gathers data necessary to calculate, then calculates, any incentive compensation applicable in accordance with the terms of certain individuals’ employment.
- Prepares and distributes bi-weekly productivity reports.
- Assists in the preparation of the annual capital and/or operating budgets.
- Assists in the preparation of cost report workpapers and/or the reporting of cost report data.
- Assist in the preparing/submitting of various reports required by the State of Oregon and/or the Federal government.
- Assists in the completion of the AHA Annual Survey.
- Assists in gathering and/or submitting information necessary to renew various insurance coverages.
- Respond to all employee, department manager and/or vendor inquiries in a timely manner.
- Complies with all applicable company policies and procedures.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Chief Financial Officer, administrative staff and co-workers.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized in stressful situations.
- Is a resource to co-workers within Blue Mountain Hospital District.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and/or webinars.
- Any additional duties pertaining to the daily operations of the Finance Department as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

Education, Experience & Certification/Licensure
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to type 50 words per minute with accuracy.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a major in accounting
- 3+ years of general ledger accounting experience
